MTN Nigeria, Globacom, Airtel Nigeria and Etisalat Nigeria have failed to pay the NGN 1.17 billion in fines imposed on them for poor service by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) by the 25 May deadline. They risk extra penalities of NGN 2.5 million per day for as long as the contravention persists, This Day reported.

The newspaper said the four operators consider that the regulator made a public show of the matter rather than addressing it. The daily said the operators took a collective decision on the matter after a joint meeting on 24 May and vowed not to pay the fine. They had already expressed their grievances before the Minister of Communications Technology, who promised to discuss the matter with the Presidency
