Following the retirement on Friday of Professor Cleopas Angaye, the minister of communication technology Mrs Omobola Johnson has appointed Dr Ashiru Daura as the acting Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

 Before his appointment, Dr Daura was the Director of Software Planning & Technical Research of the IT policy implementing agency.
He is now to serve as the acting NITDA DG pending the appointment of a substantive one. Many software experts within the private sector, including President of Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria(ISPON), Chris Uwaje,  are said to lobbying to occupy the position.
