Reps Want NCC to Bar Hidden Number Calls

The House of Representatives yesterday called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to direct all telecommunication companies in the country to block calls from hidden numbers.

Rep. Yakub Abiodun Ba-logun (ACN, Lagos), who raised a motion on the matter, argued that barring such calls from hidden numbers will not infringe on the human rights of subscribers but would enhance safety of lives and property.

He said GSM service providers have the technical capacity to prevent calls from hidden numbers from going through or revealing the caller’s identity using the system called the “Caller Line Identification device.”

The motion was unanimously passed by the House.
