Samsung Electronics has announced plans to double its smartphone marketing plans in Africa. Samsung Electronics Africa COO George Ferreira said that Africa is now the second largest and fastest-growing mobile phone market in the world after China, with Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana taking the lead in smartphone sales.
He said the continent’s mobile phone market has grown from a base of 90 million in 2005 to a current estimate of 450 million handsets. Fereira said Samsung will focus on forging partnerships with leading mobile phone operators in Africa in the strategy geared at reaching out to consumers across sub-Saharan Africa.
